Overview

Introducing "Light Up" – a visionary donation app resonates with the ethos of socially-conscious donors. The app co-creates a platform where trust and engagement seamlessly unite. "Light Up" not only addresses the challenges faced by NGOs but also elevates the donor experience, fostering continuous engagement. The app offers a rewarding journey that lights up both the lives of recipients and donors alike. Illuminate Lives, Illuminate Your Own with Light Up.

My Role

I worked as the product designer starting in a 4-people during the hackathon on a weekend, including a product manager, a full-stack developer and a UI designer. I led the team through brainstorming and ideation stage, came up and finalized the product design concept in about 2 hours during the hackathon. I worked with PM for further ideating, product strategy building, and narrowed down the user flow. By finalizing the product design concept, I than worked closely with our developer to go over the overall product concept and journey so that she can build the technician flow. Moreover, I constructed wireframe prototype, and than worked with UI designer to build basic branding and clickable high-fidelity mockups.

Who Are Our Users?

Main Users: Young donors who seek trustworthy and rewarding ways to make social impact. Lacking transparent and engaging avenues for meaningful donations leads to disconnection from the causes they care about.

Secondary Users: NGOs relying on donor engagement. Their challenges include capturing and sustaining interest from donors, hindering continuous actions. Traditional methods struggles to resonate with a digitally-driven audience. NPOs must adapt to evolving donor expectations and foster long-term commitment.

What's Our Challenge and Solution Approach?

"Light Up" addresses challenges for donors and NGOs with a trustworthy, engaging platform. Designed using design thinking and simplicity, it aligns with the digital shift and desire for direct involvement and emotional attachment. The app ensures trust and transparency, providing users visibility into projects and fundraising updates. It tackles disconnection with tangible impact tracking and donor-recipient interaction. Users enjoy a gamified journey, tracking their impact, while NGOs gain visibility and engagement. The app fosters a mutually enriching experience, celebrating impactful actions for both donors and NGOs.

Research

Our team conducted comprehensive background research and user research initiative to delve into the intricacies of both our primary target user (young donors) and secondary user (NGOs), unraveling their unique pain points.
Through a series of in-depth interviews, data analysis, and usability testing, we meticulously gathered insights into the challenges faced by NGOs in capturing and sustaining donor interest. Simultaneously, we delved into the perspective of donors, seeking trustworthy and fulfilling avenues for impactful contributions.
The data collected served as a compass, guiding our design thinking and solution development process, ensuring that "Light Up" is not just an app but a tailored response to the genuine needs and aspirations of both NGOs and donors.

#Research #Interview #user

We pinpointed a key user persona and conducted an in-depth interview with an actual user, extracting insights into her pain points and dissatisfaction with existing donation opportunities. This process informed our understanding of user needs and guided the development of our solution.

#Research #Interview #NALAM FOUNDER

During the interview with NALAM founders, we discovered the current major pain points:

  • The current strategy for promoting donation projects relies heavily on local offline touch points and word-of-mouth, which proves inefficient. While the organization has a website, the digital engagement and actual conversation (donation) are notably low.

  • The previous efforts to engage young professionals through in-company events, such as leveraging Google Giving Week to reach Google employees, predominantly young professionals. Although initial responses were positive, with one-time donations made by socially conscious individuals, feedback revealed a reluctance to make recurring donations due to a lack of feedback on the impact of their contributions and confidence in the transformative outcomes.

  • There is a significant challenge centered around managing numerous projects and girls in need with manual processes like Google Forms, emails, and paper reports proves challenging, necessitating a digital solution for real-time project tracking and updates to better engage donors.

Design Process

"Light Up" innovates by merging tech prowess with a user-centric focus, facilitates a genuine connection between donors and NGOs, allowing users to understand, connect, and actively contribute to the causes they support. The most standout feature is visual engagement of icon lightening that sparks emotional fulfillment and thus drive donor engagement. Improvements over existing solutions include:

  • Project recommendation personalization through ML algorithms, suggesting causes aligned with their interests and values;
  • Enhanced Mobile Wallet Integration to improve user convenience and encouraging frequent contributions;
  • Utilizing blockchain technology ensures the transparency and traceability of each donation
